Whilst I try to maintain an open minded approach by not making the thematic Preoccupation of my piece the exclusive preserve of any sect but it is in relation to the excesses of some false charlatans who parade themselves as religious clerics that I tangentially aim at.
I wonder why most Christians cum pastors of contemporary times have deviated from the main ratiocination behind their spiritual calling and have formulated a new method of being S moral judge in many cases which ought to be of little or less practical utilitarian value to the house of God.
The multi million dollar conundrum begging for an answer is:
What is wrong in Christians wearing makeups and trousers?
Before I provide S satisfyingly explicit response, it is of utmost exigency that one lays a threshold for the sake of limpidity hence I take a walk down the Memory Lane of Phl105 classes where I got to know that there is a difference between ''Mala In Se" and ''Mala prohibita".
The former involves all acts that are by their very nature wrong in themselves such as stealing, killing etc. These acts are made know to man based on objective moral principles woven and centred on the dictates of his reasoning telling him what is good or bad using conscience as a tool.
Hence in the words of The Late Professor A. O Okunigga:
"If you put ten men from different races in different rooms and you ask them if it is good to steal majority of them would say "NO".
However, the latter entails acts which aren't by their very nature bad but later become prohibited for various reasons which may be due to various reasons such as customary disapprobation or statutory provision.E.g is evading tax, gossiping, and obviously the wearing of make ups and trousers by females.
The war against wearing trousers and make up by females by Christian leaders is more of uncustomary than immoral. It is because it is unafrican for our ladies to do so that is why we have blindly imported it into our religious engagement. It would certainly be short sighted and unbridled display of ethnocentrism to assume wearing trousers by females is a sin because it is unknown to one's custom.
Those who opine that is morally reprehensible for ladies to wear trousers to the House of God have relied on some biblical passages but one which nearly struck me dumb was when a pastor relied on 2 Kings 9:30 which talked about Jezebel painting her face and thus we shouldn't wear make ups since it is associated with a promiscuous person.
But establishing a conviction that make up is bad because Jezebel wore it doesn't quite appeal to the sense of reasoning. This would seem to mean that one shouldn't use what S sinner started notwithstanding if it is good or amoral.
If Osama Bin Laden had produced the world 'S often storage tank that would be needed for everyone to breathe. Would Christians breathe away from it because it was produced by a bad person?
The book of Leviticus which even forbade men from wearing anything female and vice versa has been misconstrued.
In the biblical era, men wore garment robes while the women had their dress code. What Bible is telling us is that a man shouldn't wear skirts,Brasiers and other clothings that would make him mistaken for a lady and neither should a woman do same.
We have designers who make trousers for both males and females. What is important to establish is that there is a difference in the way the trousers are produced. A lady wears a feminine pants with flowery designs and that doesn't necessarily make her appear as s man who cannot wear a pink pants. In short, the wearing of trousers isn't the exclusive preserve of males.
The Bible says we must not be of the world but never expressly said we shouldn't be a partaker of its goodness.
God didn't ask us not to dress appealing neither did he ask us to stink like a putrid fish all in the name of serving him. So I wonder where some persons got the idea of wearing deodorant, makeups as a sin.
If that be the case, shouldn't we take our bath with worldly soaps?
Should we leave our body odour unbarred since it is natural and adding deodorant will be acting contrary to nature?
Let us give it a rethink.
Nigerian churches seem to be the stranger whose voice is louder than the bereaved.
The Europeans imported Christianity to us but we seem to tell them we know better than they do and we redefine it.
The whites brought us so close to them and we smell their breath and cover our noses .
They brought us into their living room only but we peed in their Bedrooms.
It is time we stopped taking the Bible as a mere literature text that is capable of so many interpretations. Now is time to follow the words of God stricto sense and respect the Bible as a direct outcome of God 'S revelation which shouldn't owe itself to the dictates of reasoning of some sanctimonious religious leaders.
let us not forget that Jesus was regarded as holy not because of his dressing. Wearing the longest of gowns sweeping the dust of the ground isn't a ticket to Heaven.
